Boo!gus

Tonight was Chris' birthday so we decided to kick off the Halloween festivities early with some pumpkin fun!! First of all Maddy and I made pumpkin cobbler for Chris' birthday 'cake'. I have never made cobbler before but it was fairly easy and incredibly delicious! While we were waiting for the cobbler to cool down to eat, we started carving our pumpkins. Chris put on our favorite Halloween movie: Ghostbusters. Liam sat in his highchair and played with a Halloween balloon. Maddy designed and carved her own pumpkin all by herself! It is seriously SO cute. She gave it freckles everywhere. I ran out of creative juices so I just did a simple face. Nothing fancy. Chris always takes carving pumpkins seriously so he took a lot of time and effort making his pumpkin into an angler fish! It is really well done. He used the stem from the pumpkin as the fishes antenna. He also made Liam's pumpkin to look like Liam. He even made one of the eyes a little droopy like Liam's. It kinda made me laugh. While Chris and Maddy were finishing off their pumpkins I gathered up all the seeds. I cleaned, buttered, salted, and finally roasted them. That is my favorite thing when we carve pumpkins. I LOVE the smell of buttery pumpkin seeds roasting in the oven. It makes fall even more real. We love fall in this household and this was a perfect way to celebrate! All in all  it was a wonderful night! Happy Birthday Christopher...

Yanking out the guts
Liam liked his pumpkin
He loved this balloon and it kept him occupied : )
Silly faces!
Yummy yummy pumpkin seeds!
We had a hard time getting them to look at the camera
Chris' is the toothy angler fish, mine is the big smiley one, Maddy's has the pretty star eyes, and Liam's is the glowing one (notice the two teeth on the bottom row and the slightly smaller left eye). Chris thinks he's hilarious...

Happenings Happenings

Well I certainly have been slacking off on the blogging lately! A TON of stuff has happened since Chris' last post! First of all: Liam swam for his first time!!! He was so cute about the whole thing. Very quiet and curious at first and then wild and crazy soon followed. He kept trying to grab the water which was hilarious to watch. We put him in a baby floaty and just let him go wild. Maddy LOVES the water and was so excited to have her baby brother in the pool with her finally!

We started giving Liam non baby food little by little. Some things he has enjoyed and other he spits right out. His favorite so far has been watermelon.

Lastly, Chris and I took the kids up to Snowbird to celebrate Oktoberfest with Chris' family. We stayed overnight and then spent the whole day playing on all of the rides....well, Chris and Maddy did. Liam and I walked around and enjoyed the fresh cool air. Maddy wanted to do everything not once but twice and sometimes three times. Chris did everything as well and wore his poor little body out. Maddy's favorite thing was the bungee trampoline. She was so good at it. Made it look effortless really. She was doing backflips  and front flips over and over again. When it was Chris' turn he got up and could barely do any of it. He was successful in doing a double flip though and was very proud of himself. There was no frickin' way I was ever gonna be able to do that so I just stood on the side and took millions of pics. After the trampoline they did the Alpine slide a few times, then Maddy was brave enough to do the mechanical bull and rope course. She was seriously fearless and surprised me. She is such a daredevil. Then Chris and I wanted to try out the German food tent. I think we got one of everything! My favorites were the potato pancakes and the German chocolate cake : ) After trying to eat it all we got tired and poor Li was exhausted but couldn't sleep from all of the noise so we left. It was a really fun day and I think we will most definitely do it again next year!

While the Cat's Away...

Emily decided on the spur of the moment to fly to Las Vegas and surprise Sarah at her birthday party. That left two innocent children solely under my care.

Uh oh.

No, it was a wonderful weekend. We kicked it off with a walk around our neighborhood, collecting various leaves and fruits we came across.

Pictured: Peach, Autumn leaf, Crabapple, Pinecone, Grapes, Pear, Different Pinecone.

An afternoon and evening filled with tummy tickling, game playing, and mess making, we snuggled up in bed together; Liam to my left, Maddy to my right.  It wasn't long before we dozed off.

The next morning, chef Maddy (who had also been playing the role of mother, teacher, and best friend to Liam and I), prepared us some yummy chocolate chocolate-chip muffins.
Sorry Liam, you can't have any.  You are a baby.
Madeleine played with her friend Brianna that morning, and with the neighbor girls that afternoon.  Later, Grammy and Umpa came over to go swimming with us at Dimple Dell pool.  However, Liam and I fell asleep while watching the Utes game, and Madeleine went to the pool only to learn that it is closed for repairs.  So she swam at Grammy and Umpa's house while Liam and I watched football.  When she got home, she and Liam put on their matching Crazy Bat pajamas and we got ready for bed.
Thirty little toes.
The next morning we dropped Liam off at Grammy's and Umpa, Madeleine and I hiked up to Timpanogos Cave.
This is going to be fun!
Ok, getting a little worn out, but still having fun!
Can you carry me?  Isn't this fun?

Yeah, it's quite a hike.  And once we stepped into the cold, dark cave, Madeleine was a little scared of what we might find.  But after the lights came on inside, she was enthralled.  She hung on the Park Ranger's every word, and made extra sure to warn me to watch my head as we crawled beneath low-hanging stalactites.  At one point, upon learning that nobody knows for sure how helictites are formed, Madeleine told me "When I grow up, I'll figure out this whole cave!"
I'll be Cave-Girl!
Back down the mountain we came with our future speleologist, and after dropping off Umpa and picking up Liam, we hurried up to the airport to greet our beloved Mommy as she stepped off the plane.  We missed her so much, and the rest of the night was nothing but hugs and kisses.

Step One: Put Snakes on Plane

So Tuesday night Chris and I met up with my sister and some other friends at the Huddle for the  'Geeks Who Drink' trivia contest. I didn't expect to help much and was sadly reminded that I know pretty much NOTHING!! Good thing I had Christopher on my team. He is seriously a walking dictionary. If I was to ever go on Who Wants to be a Millionaire, he would be my phone a friend. The only category that I remotely knew anything on was the German scheiße round. I didn't know much but was pretty sure that klippen klappen wasn't a real word. Our team took first place despite my knowledge deficiency and walked away with $75!! It was a ton of fun and we plan to do more of that in the future!

Step One: Put Snakes on Plane was our team name
The A Team was Sarah's team name
Many drinks were had and bar food consumed. Chris hugged and kissed everyone goodbye. And we raced home so that I could hop on the pump.

I have to say that although it was exciting to go out with adults and not have to worry about who's turn it is to change the poop diaper, I was SO happy to be home. I tip-toed in Maddy's room and kissed both of her eyelids goodnight. Then put my sweet Liam to sleep next to me and kept my hand linked to his the entire night. I can't help it, those kids make me melt....

The start of a wonderful friendship!

Hello. I thought I would jump on the 'blog about your life' wagon. Because I just know how much you are all DYING to know all that there to know about the Bogus family. Right? Thought so...

So this last weekend my family went up to Eden, Utah to stay in my family's new condo. It was pretty fun!. We arrived late at night so there wasn't much to do. Maddy immediately wanted to unpack all of the bags in our room. She is so funny, she wanted to hang up ALL of her clothes in the closet - even her undies were on hangers. It was so cute. The barbies got their own drawer even. Then we went to bed.

In the morning, Maddy wanted to swim so we went in the hot tub, ate breakfast, then the pool, ate lunch, then swam in the lake nearby. We were pretty much wet all day long. What more could a 'water baby' like Maddy want! I think Liam was in his stroller most of the day happy and content having the attention of Yaya, Umpa and Thia! It was constant goo goo's, drooley kisses and squishy pinchy bums for the entire weekend.

It was SO nice to come back home. Surround ourselves with familiar comfort. We had a quick dinner, threw on our jammies, and plopped in bed. I couldn't miss the Emmy's!! It's my favorite award show. I'm thinking because we have the same name and we like to celebrate our favorite thing: television! I don't think that anybody else got the memo on how good Dexter really is though. I mean, how could you not love the friendly blood splatter analyst who moonlights as a serial killer? That's good t.v. right there for ya.

ok. OK OK. I get it, your bored. Wipe the yawn spittles off your keyboard and go see what's on Woot today. We'll catch up again soon.
