Valentine's weekend

Just this last weekend Chris and I decided to celebrate our Valentine's Day ahead of time in anticipation that come Monday (the actual Valentine's Day), all venues would be packed with a plethora of doe-eyed, puppy loving, sitting on the same side of the table, kissy faced couples. Saturday night we put the kids to sleep and fixed ourselves a couple of drinks and snuggled on the couch to look at funny things on the internet. We giggled all night long and sent a few incomprehensible facebook/text messages to some of our friends. Before we went to bed we exchanged our Valentine's with each other. I gave Chris a cheesy goofy card and a few king sized Recess Peanut Butter Cups and Chris gave me a really sweet sentimental card and a one hour massage certificate. Great. Chris wins the 'Husband of the Year' award and I win the 'wife who waited until last minute to get her husband a Valentine, so she quickly drove to Walgreen's and grabbed the first things she could find' award. Chris put it best when he said: 'It's amazing that after all this time we can still fall deeper in love with each other'.

The next morning we wanted to make it a very special morning for Maddy so we bought her balloons, a rose, Valentine's day card, box of chocolates, and GIANT Kit Kat bar. Then set it all up on a breakfast tray with some waffles and a glass of juice. We told her to sit on the couch, relax, and enjoy some 'breakfast in bed'! She loved it and felt very special.

Look at the pure joy in her face!
Liam liked the googly eyes on his Valentine
Whale you be my Valentine? Dolphinitely!

Grammy and Umpa Bogus came by a little later and took Maddy to the movie theater to see 'Gnomeo and Juliet'. She loves going on little dates with them and we enjoyed a lazy morning with Liam. We also gave Liam a box of chocolates but I ate the chocolates instead and gave him some bananas :) After a quick nap for Liam, we got dressed and met up with Grammy, Umpa, Maddy, Emily, Mike, and baby Elaine at Maddy's favorite restaurant: Fuji. She really likes the hibachi grill, especially when the fire blows out of the onions like a volcano. It was Liam's first time meeting his cousin Elaine and boy did he find her fascinating!! It was so cute! I *WISH* I would have been smart enough to take a picture but I was having too much fun just hanging out with the whole Bogus clan. I think it was a perfect way to celebrate a day of love.

Our actual Valentine's day started off bad and just got worse as the day progressed. Chris slept on the couch because he was snoring too much and therefore missed the alarm in the morning. I jumped out of bed when I realized it was 7:40 and everyone was still sleeping (Maddy's school starts at 8). Chris fell off the couch and ran to get dressed while I threw some school clothes on Maddy. They stumbled out of the door but not before waking Liam up 2 hours before he was supposed to wake up. Grrrr. Chris had a major headache for most of the day, as did I. So we were basically lumps on the couch all day. Then later when Chris went to check the mail for Valentine's cards from Grammy, the first thing he saw was an awful AWFUL ad on top! It was a coupon from Enfagrow (Liam's formula) saying these very rude words: Your baby isn't a baby anymore, he is a toddler. Ahhhh! Not cool Enfagrow executives, NOT COOL! Then to top it off we had to change Liam's car seat with the next size because he has way outgrown the infant one. UGH. What kind of cruel world is this?? I am hoping our evening turns out a little better....

When I grow up I wanna be a Worm Helper!

I realize that it's been a couple of weeks since I last blogged but with good excuse. We've been sick! First Maddy, then me, then Maddy again, then Chris, then Liam, and me again. Blahhhh, I swear we are healthy people. We wash our hands, take our vitamins, and drink lots of orange juice but yet somehow those nasty little viruses find their way into our home! So there has been a lot of tissue using, medicine gulping, humidifying, soup slurping, and pajama parties on the couch. We've watched Planet Earth and The Jeff Corwin Experience a ton. I feel like if we are going to be glued to the television during our 'sick time', then we might as well educate ourselves while we do it. Jeff Corwin is awesome by the way.

Forts were a good way to keep the sickly children to stay calm and in one place.

Maddy was very proud of her salad that she 'cooked' for the family. She helped daddy to cut all of the veggies and then lovingly decorated her plate with all of the fixin's. I realize it has nothing to do with this blog but she was very proud of it!
Liam has been walking up a storm! It has become his preferred mode of getting around. If he falls down, he gets right back up to keep walking instead of crawling the rest of the way. Tonight I swear he was running around! He was moving SO fast. He has become daddy's little shadow lately as well. He follows behind Chris wherever he goes. When Chris is in the kitchen and Liam is in the living room trapped by the gate, Liam will throw all of his toys over to Chris hoping to bribe him into coming back.

This has become a nightly routine for them. They snuggle on the couch until one or both of them doze off.
Maddy is now in the process of growing her own little worms. She got an earthworm nursery for Christmas and just received her worm pods in the mail today. We had to soak them in water to remove the packing clay away from the eggs and then place them in a little tub of water (and by we, I mean Chris. I stood far away making sure he didn't touch everything in the kitchen with his 'worm goo' hands). So far 6 worms have hatched from a batch of 30 and Maddy lovingly placed them in their little nursery. As she placed them in there she would say things like 'Welcome to your new little home', 'Be nice and please don't hiss at one another', 'If you meet a friend, you can talk to them and ask them to go see a movie and then maybe someday you can be a family and have your own babies'. She even went as far as naming the first one Leesha.  It was all very cute.

Maddy is getting the nursery ready for the baby worms. You can see the worm pods soaking in the net placed in the cup filled with murky water. Chris made sure it was a glass that I would never want to use in the future. Because that is EWWWY!

Here is their home. The main thing is filled with damp soil and is where we put the baby worms once they have hatched. The small circular thing next to it is where we put the eggs until they hatch

This is to show just how tiny they are.

Little Leesha getting acquainted with Maddy.
