Now we have Liam's 3rd 'Astronaut' themed birthday party. He's really been interested in rocket ships and planets lately so I thought it was a no brainer what I should do. Again, with my new found obsession for Pinterest, I researched away. This was way more low key than Maddy's party as far as guests. I just invited family. So because of that, it meant I would have a 2 year old (my niece), 3 year old, and a brand new 9 year old to find activities for. I waited to put everything together the day of the party after I put Liam down for his nap and made Maddy stay up in her room so that she could be surprised too. Chris & I set up stations around the house with levels to complete.
Here's the cute invitations I made.
LEVEL 1: SHUTTLE ORIENTATION
We basically just let them play around in the cardboard shuttle for a little bit. It was pretty cute.
LEVEL 2: LAUNCH ROCKET
Here's Maddy with her rocket in mid air. The kids each took turns launching their own rocket. That was a lot of fun. They were getting bored of stomping on it with their feet so they started using their bums. Thank goodness I have a two story ceiling in my house because those rockets definitely took some air!
LEVEL 3: ANTI GRAVITY BALANCE
We blew up this giant 'jump-o-lene' thing in the middle of the living room and let the kids play in it to see what it was like in a space shuttle.
LEVEL 4: TRANQUILIZE ALIENS
I cut out a whole bunch of aliens from the movie 'Toy Story' and taped them all over. Then I got out our nerf gun and let each kid take turns 'tranquilizing' the aliens. Uncle Mike even took a turn.
LEVEL 5: COLLECT MOON ROCKS
All I did was paint a bunch of rocks bright green and hid them around in our yard. Each kid got a little bag to collect their 'moon rocks' in.
Again, I got creative with my food table. First I had to think of foods that I could actually get Liam to eat since he is so picky and then think of cute names for all of them.
Starbursts and Rocket ship cookies.
Fuel Rods (chocolate covered pretzel sticks) and The Big Dipper veggie tray.
Protons (blueberries) and Saturn's rings (peanut butter candy melted on round pretzels)
Liam doesn't really like cake so instead I made solar system cake pops (Chris said no to Pluto).
Rocket Fuel cherry limeade and cream soda
The only decorations I really did was put up different colored paper lanterns and labeled them as the planets. Weirdly enough Chris put up Pluto...
Blowing out the candles
We couldn't get him to smile and show off his cute birthday rocket shirt.
It was such a fun birthday party and I couldn't help but give myself a little pat on the back for putting it all together. Oh, and a big shout out to my loving husband for helping me with it.

The astronaut theme is definitely one of the coolest ideas I’ve seen. And you did a great job in putting up decorations that go with the theme. The shuttle seems to be quite a hit among the kids. I would love to use this theme for my son’s birthday next week. I’m planning to have the birthday party at the well-known venue NYC.
